How to Increase the Happiness of Society

We observe that everything around us has states that are either more stable or less stable. A more stable state is naturally a happier state. For example, when a vacuum exists, it merges with the space around it. Air inside a balloon tries to escape and equalize. A candle flame merges easily with another flame rather than burning separately. Water droplets instantly combine when they meet. Rivers flow naturally toward the sea. Even Earth’s elements show attraction, like an apple falling from a tree to the ground.

These five elements, Earth, Water, Fire, Air, and Space, follow the fundamental principle of attraction or gravity. They feel happier when they join with their larger whole. The same principle applies to the soul, which is subtler than all these elements. Our soul also seeks connection. It becomes more fulfilled when it is in harmony with other souls. That is when our true happiness increases.

We try various methods to feel happier, but at the core, one truth remains simple: we need to connect with others at the level of the soul, a connection known as Atmiyata.

So, to increase happiness in society, we must create platforms where people can interact meaningfully. The platform and the people hosting interactions must ensure that these interactions are warm, respectful, and uplifting. This is a sure and effective way to build a happier society.

We should encourage everyone to know one another, not just at the physical, mental, or emotional level but at the spiritual level as well.
