Stop Consoling. Start Acting.
We usually try to comfort others when we see them facing troubles. In this article, let’s explore why just giving consolation isn’t enough, and why taking real action matters.

When life throws challenges at us, it’s natural to look for comfort. A kind word, a pat on the back. It feels good when someone consoles us in tough times. But let’s be honest, that alone doesn’t solve anything. Consolation might calm the heart for a while, but it doesn’t fix the storm we’re in.
Now, here’s the tricky part: the person giving consolation often feels like they’ve done their duty. “I’ve said something nice; my job here is done.” But in reality, their duty isn’t done, it’s just begun. Because true service lies not in words, but in action.
We’ve got to stop running away from our responsibilities by hiding behind comforting words. Talk less, act more. Be aware of your strengths and use them. Remember the example of Rishi Dadhichi. He didn’t just console the devas with kind words when they were in trouble, he gave away his very bones to create a divine weapon to protect the world. That’s real help. That’s real responsibility.
Each of us can serve society in some way, small or big. Even a little help, done sincerely, is far greater than empty words wrapped in sympathy.
But what if you truly can’t do anything? What if you’re stuck, helpless, watching someone suffer or facing a situation where action seems impossible?
Then don’t sit idle, and don’t just sigh in frustration. Channel that agitation. Do something powerful, something subtle yet transformative: Naam Jap.
Chant the Divine Name with full attention. Naam Jap is not an escape. It’s a form of sincere work. It aligns your mind, it radiates peace, and it sends unseen energy into the world. If you can’t offer physical help, offer spiritual strength.
So, the next time life puts you in a position where you can neither act nor console, sit down, close your eyes, and do at least 15 minutes of concentrated Naam Jap. That, too, is service. That, too, is action.
